Here in the Netherlands, Magnum is sold by the box and not individually, it also has another flavor which is white chocolate. A box of 4 costs around 2.60 euros so if you convert it the total is 148php so it's only around 37php per bar. The Philippine price of 50php is I think still reasonable enough.

had a first taste back in SG, 2008 under wall's brand. didn't like it, too sweet. i just bought it out of curiosity, well ben & jerry's won me back immediately. on the sidenote, i still prefer cornetto under the heartbrand ice cream maker.

Good question. :) Let's imagine that instead of having a basket of goods containing different items (a bottle of water, a sack of rice, a haircut, etc.), we only have a basket of goods containing 1 item - a magnum ice cream bar - then this infographic holds true.

In fact this index is very much similar to the Starbucks Index or Big Mac Index which uses the implicit cost of a tall latte or a big mac for each country translated into US dollars as seen in this Economist article. :)

Additionally the sources are indicated above where I asked friends from those cities to visit their grocery and/or 7/11 and send the price of a Classic Magnum Ice Cream Bar.

Did you base this on foreign exchange rates or in purchasing power party (PPP) rates? If you used the former and not the latter, then you are actually misinforming the public about this. The exchange rate is a crude estimate of comparing various prices across the world; PPP levels should have been used here. For the public to have better scrutiny on these comparative price levels, I suggest that the InfoGraphic should explicitly mention the sources.

That is true. But do remember that the product is imported from Australia. One might think that it would cost near the price it is sold in Sydney or even more because we add the cost of transport. :)

I love magnum, its definitely a good product and I think the price is reasonable. I just dont think this report proves the point because obviously the cost of living (ergo, the level of wages) are different in most of these FIRST WORLD countries :p

In Guangzhou, Magnum is around 7 rmb, around the same price we have here in the Philippines.
